Escape the city for a whirlwind adventure with our 2-Day Desert Tour from Fes. Designed specifically for travelers with limited time, this itinerary allows you to witness the majesty of the Sahara Desert without needing a long holiday. Your journey takes you through the diverse landscapes of the Middle Atlas Mountains, from the alpine town of Ifrane to the dramatic palm-filled canyons of the Ziz Valley.
The highlight of your trip is the Erg Chebbi dunes in Merzouga. Here, you will trade your vehicle for a camel to trek across the sands at sunset, culminating in a night under the stars at a traditional Berber camp. The return journey offers a chance to explore the “Switzerland of Morocco” and the cave-dwelling regions of Immouzer, ensuring you experience the best of the south before returning to Fes.

Your express adventure begins with an early morning pick-up from your hotel or Riad in Fes. We head south, ascending into the Middle Atlas Mountains, the gateway to the Moroccan South. Our first major stop is the Cedar Forest of Azrou, located on volcanic rock. Here, you will have the unique opportunity to see and feed the wild Barbary Macaque monkeys that call this forest home.
We continue our drive traversing the spectacular Ziz Valley, where towering brown cliffs contrast beautifully with the lush green ribbon of date palm groves below. As the landscape flattens and turns to desert, we arrive in Merzouga in the late afternoon. You will meet your camel caravan for a magical sunset trek across the rolling Erg Chebbi dunes, enjoying the peace and silence of the Sahara. You will arrive at your Desert Camp to enjoy a delicious dinner, listen to traditional Berber music, and sleep under a vast canopy of stars.
We recommend waking up early to capture the breathtaking sunrise over the golden dunes—a photographer’s dream. After a traditional breakfast at the camp, you will reconnect with your driver to begin the journey back north. We stop for lunch in Midelt, a town famous for its apple orchards and fossils, serving as the midpoint of our drive.
In the afternoon, we pass through Ifrane, known as “Morocco’s Switzerland” for its alpine architecture, clean parks, and the prestigious Al-Akhawayn University. Continuing through the mountains, we pass Immouzer du Kandar, a popular summer escape for locals known for its inhabitants’ unique cave dwellings. We descend from the mountains to reach the fertile Saiss plain, arriving back in Fes in the evening where we drop you off at your accommodation.
Our multi-day Morocco tours include comfortable transportation in an air-conditioned vehicle, an English-speaking professional driver-guide, accommodation in riads or desert camps depending on the itinerary, pickup and drop-off from your hotel or riad, and breakfasts throughout the tour. On Sahara desert tours, camel trekking and sunset/sunrise in the dunes are also included.
Optional activities, lunches, personal expenses, and entrance fees to monuments are not usually included unless stated in your specific Morocco tour itinerary.

The best time to enjoy a Morocco desert tour is from March to June and September to November, when temperatures are pleasant both during the day and at night. Summer (July–August) is hot, especially in the Sahara, but tours are still available with early-morning and late-afternoon activities. Winter is great for travel as well, but nights in the desert can be cold—warm clothing is recommended.
Whatever the season, our team ensures a comfortable and safe Morocco travel experience.
For some off-road sections especially around Merzouga dunes, Dades Gorges, and Atlas mountain regions a 4×4 vehicle is highly recommended. All our Morocco desert tours already include the appropriate vehicle and an experienced driver familiar with local desert roads and mountain passes.
You don’t need to worry about driving yourself; we handle transportation so you can relax and enjoy the scenery.
